Fulfilling the requirements for Safeguarding Adults (Level 3) cannot be done in one go. That's why staff are given a full year to achieve that compliance. The year runs from starting in their role or from being assigned to this training. Thereafter, renewal is every three years.
HEE's Core Skills Training Framework specifies that this Level 3 training programme equates to about 8 hours of learning, and should include reflective and multidisciplinary learning.
Overview of Parts 1 and 2
At SLaM, staff must complete two Parts for the Level 3 training. Both of these Parts can be found as course pages on LEAP.
Part 1: Acquiring Safeguarding Competence
- Complete the SLaM eLearning - on LEAP
- (An alternate pathway by taking FutureLearn online learning was allowed until May 2023, but this is no longer encouraged).
Part 2: Maintaining and Developing Safeguarding Competence (Multidisciplinary and Interagency learning)
- SLaM Level 3 Safeguarding adult workshop (in-house pathway)
- (An alternate pathway by submitting a "learning log" of external courses or events was available until May 2024, but this has been discontinued ("paused") as insufficiently robust).
When you have completed both Parts you will show as "certified" (i.e. compliant) for Safeguarding Adults (Level 3) on your Record of Learning in LEAP. If you are not compliant, your Record of Learning will indicate which component you have not yet completed.
(Staff were formerly asked to upload also a reflective summary, but as of June 2023, this is no longer required).
