ALS is not delivered at the Trust, but staff may have received ALS training elsewhere. If so, please send evidence of this to the Training department, who will then update your profile and your record on LEAP.
ALS should be renewed every 4 years, according to the HEE Core Skills Training Framework.
ALS and ILS
If your ALS training is marked as in-date, this will also certify you for ILS (Immediate Life Support). Your ALS certification will simply exempt you from the "audience" for ILS, and so ILS will not even appear on your mandatory training profile in LEAP.
If your ALS training goes out of date, you should expect to become part of the ILS "audience" so this will then appear on your profile in LEAP, and you will be asked to complete ILS training, as this is the training on offer at SLaM.
If you renew your ALS training (elsewhere, because not offered at SLaM), this will once again exempt you from ILS - once the Training department has seen the evidence (e.g. certificate) of that training and updated LEAP.
Guidance for Training team (E&D admins) on updating audiences and LEAP
The preferred way to update staff is in the ALS course. Add their external training date as a "Past Training" instance, and mark them as attended. (This attendance will mark them as course complete, and that will add them in to the ALS audience & certification).
An alternative way for admins is to update their certification, if the staff member already shows as assigned to the certification.
You do not need to add staff to the ALS audience, or remove them from it.
You do not need to manually update ALS-qualified staff for ILS (because their ALS status will keep them out of the ILS audience).
