Service managers should fill in this form to get this actioned on LEAP.
Request for Exclusion from SLTP & BLS/ILS training
All staff are assigned training, including the appropriate level of SLTP and Basic or Immediate Life Support depending on a combination of:
- role - their job & staff group
- department – may be patient facing or not patient facing, inpatient or non-inpatient
If for any reason your staff member is unable to complete their required training due to pregnancy, illness, injury or an ongoing medical condition the supervisor may use the Request for Exclusion form to apply for a temporary amendment to their training requirements. Training requirements may be temporarily changed to a lower level of training or removed.
The employee's mandatory training requirements will be amended until the date requested in the Exclusion form has passed. After this date the employee's normal training requirements will be automatically reinstated and any training which has been completed will show Certified if still within date.
The employee will not be included in any training reports for this topic and will not be included in the department's training compliance rate.
Managers are responsible for seeking advice from Employee Relations, HRBPs and/or Occupational Health regarding any disability, long term sickness or other conditions which may affect an employee’s ability to carry out their normal duties.
Seni Lewis Training Programme Level 3 Team Skills (SLTP L3 Team Skills)
There is a physical component to this training. You will need to demonstrate that you can:
- walk
- move your arms and legs
- move your head and neck
- twist at the waist
- mobilise between standing and kneeling and lying in both the supine and prone positions on the floor, independently and as part of a team.
If you have any concerns about your ability to do this please contact your Line Manager.
Staff exempted from SLTP L3 Team skills requirement will normally be required to complete SLTP L3 MDT training which does not have the physical element of the training.
The SLTP team recommends that any person who has suffered a break or fracture of bones, dislocation of a joint within the past 6 months or is receiving treatment for a ligament sprain or muscle strain, must seek health clearance from occupational health/GP prior to attending the course. Any member of staff who has suffered “whiplash” within the last two years must also get clearance from their GP.
If you have any concerns about the above or require any reasonable adjustments (under the Equality Act, 2010) please contact your Line Manager or Employee Relations who may then contact the Learning and Development Department.
Basic and Immediate Life Support Training
If the employee has a condition which prevents them from carrying out chest compressions, the training requirement may be removed.
Moving & Handling (Patients) Training
If the employee has a condition which is restricting their physical involvement on the ward, they may be downgraded (for the same temporary period as authorised on the form) to Moving & Handling Loads (eLearning).
Long Term Sickness over 21 days
All mandatory training requirements will be temporarily removed and any face to face training which has been booked will be automatically cancelled. The employee will be required to rebook any face to face training on their return.
If the employee is signed off to return work earlier than expected, this can be reported via the same form and normal training requirements will be reinstated.
