Some changes to SLaM training profiles and delivery took effect in December 2022. For Safeguarding Children training, this means the Level 2 (e-learning) now needs renewing every three years, and the Level 3 (which includes in-person and reflective learning) will be a mandatory requirement for higher level clinical staff, and not just those working in CAMHS.
These changes re-align the Trust's mandatory training with NHS England's Core Skills Training Framework.
These changes also seek to maintain our conformity with the Intercollegiate Guidance on Safeguarding.
-
- Safeguarding Children Level 2
- Staff in mid-level clinical roles now need to renew Safeguarding Children Level 2 (e-learning) every 3 years. This certification was formerly known on LEAP as "Safeguarding Children Level 1 and 2 [Once Only]"
- This change to the renewal period means staff may now see messages stating their compliance Expired a long time ago; but in reality they were compliant until the renewal period changed (in December 2022).
- Staff who have completed Level 3 will no longer need to renew Level 2.
- Safeguarding Children Level 3
- Staff in decision-making clinical roles (Band 6+), all patient facing CAMHS staff, Perinatal/Mother & Baby Unit will need to renew Safeguarding Children Level 3 (includes in-person and reflective learning) every 3 years.
- This requirement applies to all services, not just CAMHS.
- This training requirement amounts to around 8 hours of learning
- At SLaM, this training is delivered as a combination of e-Learning and attending an in-house workshop ("Foundation pathway")
- Certifying this training by submitting a Learning Log of relevant CPD ("Renewal pathway") is no longer accepted at SLaM (as decided by Safeguarding Training leads, May 2024).
- Certifying this training by submitting evidence of equivalent completion at another NHS Trust is accepted.
- Safeguarding Children Level 2
