As of July 2025, the BLS content in LEAP is re-organised into several separate course pages, but the actual training contents and competencies have not changed.
New staff
All staff undertaking Basic Life Support Foundation training must now complete ‘Ligature Management (First time)’ as a short eLearning module, rather than within the current face to face training.
This training content (Ligature Management ) is specific to a Mental Health Trust and needs to be taken regardless of any existing Basic Life Support certification or equivalent at the time of joining the Trust.
Staff renewing Basic Life Support
Renewing staff should complete all the following components:
- Step 1: Ligature Management
- Step 2: Basic Life Support Guidance Videos
- Step 3: BLS Pre-Refresher Quiz
- Step 4: BLS Refresher in-person training session

Staff (or their managers) are encouraged to book on to the Refresher training session straightaway after their previous attendance (i.e. a year ahead).
But staff need to complete the first 3 Steps above before attending their Refresher training.

Staff not completing these Steps in time may have their bookings cancelled.

Only patient-facing staff are assigned to mandatory BLS training, but all staff are encouraged any time to access the informative, short videos:
