A change to SLaM training profiles takes effect during September 2025, such that Medical staff (Doctors) no longer need to renew the short Moving and Handling - Loads (eLearning), but merely complete it once, initially.
This change is based on analysis of actual incidents occurring, and on the wider NHS move to reduce and make proportionate the time burden of mandatory training for medical staff.
Summary of mandatory Moving and Handling training:
The mandated levels within SLaM are now as follows:
- Inpatient staff with high intensity contact, e.g in PMOA - 2-yearly face to face training (which includes loads and patient handling)
- Most Inpatient clinical staff - 3-yearly face to face training (which includes loads and patient handling)
- Community clinical staff - 2-yearly e-Learning (load handling)
- Non-clinical staff - 3-yearly e-Learning (load handling)
- Medical staff - Once-only e-Learning (load handling)
