Sexual Safety eLearning has been developed at SLaM (released on LEAP March 2025)
- Sexual Safety eLearning will be set as Mandatory Training for patient-facing staff in inpatient settings.
- Other staff groups are also encouraged to access the eLearning on LEAP.
- The eLearning is available in parallel versions, one for clinical and one for non-clinical staff.
Reviews of serious sexual incidents on our wards had indicated staff did not have the right knowledge and expertise to deal with issues of sexual safety effectively. Inpatient staff have expressed feeling a lack of confidence in handling certain scenarios and a sense of shame and fear of repercussions if they were to report an incident. Many staff felt they don't have the tools to deal with these sensitive situations and experienced challenges when documenting them.
The sexual safety eLearning training aims to bridge this gap by providing knowledge, skills, and strategies to address these challenges effectively.
It is based on real-life scenarios on how to identify and manage inpatient sexual safety incidents. It aims to lead to a change of culture in which sexual safety is a priority and conversations around sexual safety are normalised.
