Fire Safety and Fire Marshal - for all staff
- A new Fire Marshal e-learning module has been created at SLaM and is now available on LEAP.
- All staff should take this e-learning as part of their annual renewal of Fire Safety Awareness.
- The Fire Marshal training includes responding effectively to a fire emergency, and how to evacuate people safely from a building). These are useful skills even for staff who are rarely on site.
- This means that the Fire Safety Awareness training on LEAP now includes 2 distinct e-learning modules ("Fire Safety" and "Fire Marshal") and staff will only show as complete and certified when they have done both.
Fire Warden - for nominated staff
- As of mid 2024, the Fire Warden training at SLaM will have a narrower scope, focusing on procedure testing, monitoring, record-keeping.
- Fire Wardens have been identified by the Trust's Fire Safety Group as Team Leaders, Deputy Team Leaders, and locally nominated staff.
- Each Directorate has a Fire Safety Management lead [*], who is responsible for ensuring Fire Wardens are nominated and trained in all locations.
- If you have been assigned to mandatory Fire Warden training, but don't believe this is appropriate, please contact your Directorate's Fire Safety Management lead; they may update their lists and will then notify LEAP.
- DSNs (Duty Staff Nurses) will also continue to be assigned to mandatory Fire Warden training.
Fire Warden - updating training profiles for previously assigned staff
- Many staff, who were assigned to Fire Warden training prior to mid-2024 will no longer need it as mandatory requirement. The Fire Safety Group will work with the LEAP admins to update these staff profiles.
- Staff who are prompted to renew Fire Warden, but are aware that they no longer need Fire Warden training in their roles may simply email the LEAP admins to have their mandatory "Fire Warden" flag unticked.
Fire Warden - training availability
- Fire Warden training sessions (for 2024's narrower and more-focused training) are under development
- Fire warden training dates are expected to be available to book on LEAP from May 2024.
- Appraisal checks on staff's MAST compliance should recognise that this training has been unavailable during early 2024.
[*] Re: Each Directorate has a Fire Safety Management lead"
- NB the Corporate Directorate has no designated lead (as of April 2024), so please contact the Trust lead in this case.
