Some changes to SLaM training profiles and delivery take effect on LEAP in December 2022, or January 2023. These changes have been agreed by the Trust’s Mandatory and Statutory Training (MAST) Group and Trust subject leads, in alignment with NHS England’s Core Skills Training Framework.
The changes from December 1st 2022 are:
- Moving and Handling.
- Patient-facing ward staff will do in-person training (which includes both load and patient handling).
- Other staff will do e-learning for load handling.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Staff who are in clinical roles but are not patient-facing will no longer need to do in-person annual renewal; they are no longer required to do BLS
- Staff who are in non-clinical roles who are not patient-facing will no longer need to do once-only in-person training; they are no longer required to do BLS
- Safeguarding Children
- Staff in mid-level clinical roles will need to renew Safeguarding Children Level 2 (e-learning) every 3 years
- Staff in decision-making clinical roles (Band 6+) will need to renew Safeguarding Children Level 3 (includes in-person and reflective learning) every 3 years. This applies to all services, not just CAMHS.
The changes from January 1st 2023 are:
- Paediatric BLS
- A new training course is being offered, and will be mandatory with annual renewal for CAMHS clinical staff and on-call staff covering child services.
