Some changes to SLaM training profiles and delivery take effect on December 1st 2022. For Moving and Handling training, this reflects the fact that Face to Face training sessions (paused during Covid) are now being offered again.
Earlier this year we undertook a review of Moving and Handling training and its application in practice.
A paper was presented and signed off at the Trust Mandatory and Statutory Training Committee and art the Health and Safety committee. It proposed:
- Level 1a- Non-clinical staff - Will complete loads e-learning every 3 years. Certain groups (e.g. estates and facilities, IT staff), will be required to do this every 2 years, as load handling is part of their role (in line with the CSTF).
- Level 1b-Community staff – Will complete the loads e-learning loads package every 2 years (in line with the CSTF) There will be an option for staff to book onto a face to face training (which includes loads and patient handling) if the need arises
- Level 2a – Inpatient (low level) – Staff in this group will require face to face training every 3 years (this will include both loads and patient handling).
- Level 2b - Inpatient (high level e.g PMOA) - 2 yearly face to face training (which includes loads and patient handling) with local expert support in between.
What does this mean for you?
- Your profile will be changed to fit with your updated mandatory training requirement
- For staff already in-date from previous training delivery, this date will be used to calculate your renewal dates
- Those staff who were previously assigned to "Once Only" training are now assigned to Moving and Handling - Loads [3 Years] - so many staff who formerly did not need to renew will now appear as Expired for renewal. But a quick e-learning activity is enough to achieve compliance.
