Are the employment records for all staff in your team up to date on ESR and showing correctly on LEAP?
How to check LEAP – Click on My Team and you will see your direct reports listed.
If they are not correct, this is likely because ESR is out of date, and needs to be corrected with Workforce. Please see the FAQ Help section – ‘My Team's Details: I am a manager and my employee’s details are incorrect…’ to find out what to do next. - Are any of your staff members on Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Leave, Long Term Sickness or Career Break?Their ESR record should have been updated by following the steps above, but if you find they still have an active appraisal form then please indicate on their appraisal that they have met objectives, rate them as acceptable in the End of Year Assessment and finalise the form in their absence.
- Do you have staff members on Honorary contracts, including Social Workers and Doctors? Please note for staff on these contracts the host employer is responsible for carrying out appraisals so these staff are not required to complete a SLaM Appraisal – even though in these cases you may see their name appear on your My Team list. If you think there is a reason you should be completing an appraisal for an individual on an honorary contract, please discuss this with you HR Business Partner.
-
Have you delegated appraisal to another team member if you are not carrying it out yourself?
Ensure you go to My Team > Select ‘Choose appraiser’ for the member of staff you wish to change the appraiser for.
If the Appraiser name column appears blank or has a name you do not expect to see there, you may need to go through this ‘Choose appraiser’ process, even if you wish to go back to the standard procedure of the manager appraising the staff member. In that case, you would search for and then choose yourself as Appraiser.
-
Does your staff member have existing Performance Objectives and Development Goals?
If none of these exist from previous years, the staff member may need to create and enter at least one of each before you as the appraiser can add further Objectives/Development Goals. -
Remember to click Save at the bottom of each form on your Appraisals – Always.
-
When do I know if the appraisal is complete?
When you and the appraiser have finalised the appraisal on the End of Year form, it will be marked as complete. A small number of appraisals then get revised in the Calibration process carried out by HR Business Partners; in this case, your appraisal may briefly show as “in progress” again, but after Calibration changes, it will again be marked as complete.
